Nintendo Switch may have changed the way the company looks at future consoles
With the success of Nintendo Switch, the company has an interesting perspective for its future consoles.
During a recent questions and answers with investors, the President of Nintendo, Suntaro Furukawa, said the company had no project of future console model and will continue to focus on Nintendo Switch.
We believe that (the Nintendo Switch) is a type of console different from those we previously published, he noted. We are also looking at the current market and think there are many different ways of thinking about the future development of the console.
Between the switch and its iteration Switch Lite, Nintendo has already sold 52.4 million units, exceeding life sales of many of its other consoles, including the Super Nintendo.
The company also sees how good games can be of vital importance, just as it was the case in the past. Furukawa noted: On the other hand, the software is also very important. So in the short term, while the installation base of Nintendo Switch continues to expand, we must focus on that. »
Nintendo Switch will not be replaced if early, because Nintendo wants to continue its success. By focusing our attention on the Nintendo Switch, we think we can have a life cycle of material very different (longer) than the preceding Nintendo consoles. Although Nintendo does not have a new hardware model for its Nintendo Switch range (such as Pro Rumor), 2020 should be a strong year in games. Animal Crossing: New Horizons launches next month (parallel to its own special switch system); and extensions for both épée and shield Pokemon and Super Smash Bros.ultimate should arrive this year. Not to mention all that society has planned for its next Nintendo Direct, which should occur in the spring.
